The Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now (www.conncan.org) is a dynamic nonprofit organization that is leading the way in closing Connecticut’s academic achievement gap, the largest gap between rich and poor students of any public school system in the nation.

Position

In the three years since it was founded, ConnCAN’s unique combination of community outreach, communications, research and public policy advocacy have placed it at the center of a statewide reform effort to provide every child in Connecticut with a great public school.

As a key member of the team, the Operations Associate will play a central role in supporting the office functions for the New Haven and Hartford offices.

The Operations Associate will report to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

The Operations Associate will be responsible for providing administrative support, and technical assistance to the Executive Director, Director of Operations, and other staff as needed. The associate will also support the Director of Operations with general bookkeeping functions, invoicing, and the preparation of financial reports. The associate will maintain accurate and detailed financial records, monitor assigned budgets, as well as administer office supply orders and maintain inventory and support the development operations of the organization.  The associate will coordinate conference room scheduling, answer phones, route incoming/outgoing mail, greet guests, and assist with office projects.  Additionally, the associate may coordinate the work of volunteers or temporary office support staff.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational and secretarial skills: keyboard (60 wpm).
  • Proficient with QuickBooks and/or accounting practices and procedures.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point; comfortable with PC & Mac.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills with mastery of English grammar, spelling, editing, and composition.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, to organize multiple and varied assignments, and to work both independently and as a member of a team.
