Matt Taylor, Principal

"Teachers are going to feel great if they can feel successful, if they feel their students are successful. So when we see it, we recognize it. It’s all about reminding teachers why we are here and that they are driving this huge mission that we are on."

"We have what we call our ‘biggest jobs,’ where we bring in all the teachers and the parents and just allow everyone to talk about the struggles. Then all of sudden parents realize they're part of a community of people who are all having the same experience."

Jeff House, Academic Dean/Teacher

"We look at data a lot. We don't just look at data at the end of the year, we actually look at it every six weeks for our own interim assessments because we can't wait until March to find out if our instruction is working or not."

"A big way of how we try to support teachers is we try to take the rocks out of the road. Meaning, there are enough real barriers, enough real challenges to student achievement. We try as hard as we can to remove the artificial barriers so the teachers can just focus on teaching."

Kim Mowery, Teacher

"I always, always feel like someone has my back. I have never felt like I'm on the opposite side of a battle with our school leaders. And I can always been honest with them and I can go and I can ask them for help."

"I think parents have a really important impact: watching the way their kids do their homework, making sure they get the sleep, the rest, and the food they need. And also just reinforcing the message we teach here at Amistad. I think when the kids are living with the REACH values at home, they have a much easier time living with them here."
