Location: 25 Sage Park Road, Windsor, CT 06095 Basic Information Type: Traditional Public School African American: 47% Performance Of the 72 public elementary schools in Connecticut with publicly reported CMT scores for Hispanics, Windsor’s Sage Park Middle School had the 3rd highest percentage of Hispanics within goal range (61 percent) in the state. In 2006, Sage Park was also tied for the 9th largest performance gain between the 6th and 7th grade (11 percentage points). Elements of Success Led by the high expectations of principal Paul Cavaliere and connected to a district-wide turnaround strategy grounded in data-driven instruction, Windsor’s Sage Park Middle School has emerged as a top statewide performer. To maximize the potential for individual instruction, Sage Park is organized into three “houses,” one for each of the three grades in the school (6th, 7th, and 8th). These houses provide students with “a school within a school” environment where learning takes the form of personalized instruction. Teachers collaborate to ensure an integrated system of curriculum, projects, student evaluations, and parental communication. The school has also developed a differentiated instruction approach to teaching math, in which students with mixed skill levels learn together. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
