The "Great Schools for All" Petition

Connecticut is facing a crisis of educational inequality. Our state has the largest achievement gap in America: on average Connecticut’s low-income students are three years behind middle- and high-income students in reading, writing and math.

While this crisis impacts Connecticut’s poor and minority communities the most, every one of us pays a substantial price. Educational inequality means fewer jobs, more crime, and higher taxes.

There are five proven policies that you can support to help close this gap:

1. Expanding access to high quality preschool programs.
2. Creating new high performing public schools.
3. Recruiting teacher and principal all-stars into our urban districts—and keeping them there.
4. Helping districts implement best practices for raising achievement across all their schools.
5. Providing straightforward information on education spending and student progress in every school in every district.
