Jonathan Smith

Jonathan comes to ConnCAN from the college access and readiness space, where he ran communications and development for a national near-peer mentoring organization. Before becoming a nonprofit professional, Jonathan spent ten years working in television production in New York for major media outlets including CNBC, SPACE.com, ITV Studios America, and the History Channel. Jonathan began his media career at MTV News & Documentaries, working on youth-focused, pro-social projects, including the acclaimed documentary series True Life.
He has extensive experience creating and producing digital media initiatives and sponsored content campaigns for NGOs and international development nonprofits, including the United Nations Association of the Untied States, the International Rescue Committee, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Global Business School Network. In addition to considerable field work in the developing world, Jonathan has produced multiple documentary projects in the Arctic. He was awarded the United States Coast Guard Arctic Service Medal in 2012 in recognition of his work supporting American polar science. Jonathan has also worked on a presidential campaign and written for Mental Floss magazine. He is a licensed pilot and holds a B.A. in history from Yale University, where he was a first-generation college student.
